Sasha has built a quiet life beyond the walls of Lathos, carving basalt by the waterfalls and surviving through patience, skill, and instinct. She wants nothing from the city that rejected her.

But when King Jolhan begins redirecting the river in the name of progress, the land itself begins to suffer. The falls weaken. The water turns wrong. The people are told to trust their king, but Sasha knows the river is warning them.
